There are also “Fun Marathons” that are available to all ages. They encourage kids to stay more active alongside their parents. If you have never taken part in a marathon like the “Rock River Cannonball” you are truly missing out!

About the Cannonball Marathon

The Cannonball run is a yearly event that takes place around the US. One event was held at Stringer’s Ridge, and others have been hosted in Greensboro. These marathons are designed to be fun for the entire family. Kids can take part in a Fun Run of up to one mile in distance. For adults, there are 5k and 10k events. Outside of the marathon, there are lots of ways for you to meet and greet people with the same love of running that you have.

Why Run a Marathon?

If fun isn’t a good enough reason for you to take part in this year’s marathons; there are many other reasons. You may run to earn money for a favorite charity, show your commitment to becoming more fit in the year ahead, inspire others to get healthier, and so much more. There is also a sense of accomplishment that can come only from successfully completing an event. Even if you are just starting on your journey through becoming more active, you can walk to the finish line. The important part is that you take part in it!

Dressing for Your Run

dressing for a marathonIt may seem strange, but you should always consider your wardrobe when taking part in a marathon of any kind. The ideal temperature for them is usually around 45-50F because your body, once you start running will warm up quickly. If you are trying to run in the middle of summer, your body temperature will soar.
Before you run, make sure that your clothing is suitable for the temperature during the race. This means you may want to consider tee-shirts when it 50-60F and tank tops when it is nearing 70F. Shorts are always great, but you should choose shorts that do not feel restrictive on your legs.
Your shoes should also be comfortable. They should be designed for running. Luckily, this is easy since many name brand shoe companies offer running shoes that are lightweight and comfortable.
